It’s been a long two years, and we’re now in the final stretch. For one year and eleven months, the outcome of the Scottish Independence referendum never seemed to be in doubt, but one poll in The Times has sent the campaign supernova. That poll, of course, showed the pro-independence campaign ahead by a single percentage point for the first time. The union was creaking and it had seemed to take everyone south of Gretna by surprise.  What we have seen in Scotland since has been nothing short of astounding.
